Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars, Season 2, Episode 1

Well, well, well.  Where do I start?  I loved it!  (of course I did).  So we don’t have teams this time.  We already knew the queens would have to vote each other off but what we didn’t know was that the queen who won the lip synch would get $10,00 in addition to the power to send someone packing.  Okay so let’s get this going.  Oh and there’ll be spoilers…so read at your own risk!

The Grande Entrances

We saw them, they were mostly good.  I particularly loved Coco Montrese’s Dorito compact.  Tatianna was beat, and Alyssa even said so.  My favorite part was when Adore walked in and Katya said she was serving “Poetic Justice smell my punani realness”.  YAS!  Come through with that reference chile!  I think that’s enough about that.

Mini Challenge

The library was officially opened during this week’s mini challenge.  Who knew we would get to see reading this early in the season.  Some were good, like Alaska and Ginger Minj.  That line about thinking about Roxxxy at the bus stop was kinda cruel though.  Some weren’t great like Coco Montrese.  Overall it was pretty funny.  Everyone seemed to take it well.

Main Challenge

The main challenge this week was a talent show.  The queens were asked to get up there and put on an act of their choosing.  Obviously they knew about this before hand, otherwise some of them wouldn’t have known to bring props and stuff.  Here are how the contestants fared in the competition.

Detox’s performance was pretty cool.  She sang and played drums with neon paint, going great with her aesthetic.  I thought her voice sounded really good for the song and overall it was a really good job.  She was safe so we didn’t get to hear any critiques but I think they would have given her a good review.

Alaska’s song was funny but I wouldn’t say it was anything to write home about.  It was cute but not as good as some of the other acts.  Safe.

Roxxxy Andrews pulled off a really good burlesque act, complete with outfit and wig reveals.  She deserved that top 2 spot for sure.  The outfit was gorgeous and she did a great job.

Alyssa Edwards did a little variety act with some lip synching, a puppet and dancing.  It was good and well rehearsed and to me one of the better acts.  She was safe as well.

Coco Montrose went with a talent that she isn’t exactly known for; dancing.  It was a cute dance but much of it was the same movements and it made me wonder if she’d really rehearsed it well enough or if it was just off-the-cuff old school style movements.  Her outfit was super cute though and Michelle was pretty mean about her makeup.  She was one of the bottom three.  Based on the acts alone, that was a good call.

Tatianna did spoken word and boy did she do it.  When it popped up on screen that she chose spoken word, I was like “Whet?” but then she got going and it was really good and entertaining and serious but kind of funny.  She was the other top person this week and it was well deserved.

Ginger Minj sang as well.  Lot of singers this time.  Ginger has a great voice but the song was slow and a little boring if I’m honest.  She looked good tho, va-geggie and all.

Katya is bae. Her gymnastics act was quite good, maybe more contortionist than gymnastic, but we just watched the best gymnasts in the world last week so maybe I’m being a little hard on her.  It was good though!  I said it was good!

Phi Phi O’Hara’s acapella wasn’t so good.  I love you Phi Phi, but sheesh.  I think Phi Phi has a good voice but performing live you have to really rehearse and be on point.   You can’t just go out and start singing and hope it sounds perfect so sadly she wound up in the bottom…Which brings me to…

Adore Delano who I love and also has a great voice.  Did not show up too well with the singing.  I’m thinking the same idea as Phi Phi.  She can sing so she may not have done much in the way of rehearsal.  I like Adore’s grunge look.  I think in trying to do a more “fancy” look, it just got lost in translation.  I think one of her more grunge looks would have been better and she’d have been much more comfortable.  I felt bad for her because Michelle kinda just trashed her.  It was way harsh, Tai.  Hopefully it doesn’t get her too down.

The Elimination

The queens were sent back to deliberate with Tatianna and Roxxy having to choose which of the bottom three would go home if they won the lip synch.  Roxxxy opted to talk to each one.  Tatianna didn’t and didn’t seem down with eliminating people based on the challenge only as she felt later in the competition people would start to eliminate others for other reasons.

So Tatianna and Roxxy had to lip synch to “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift, which is one of my jams.  They both did a good job, nothing too exciting but it was good.  Roxxxy won and chose to send Coco home.

I thought that was that…UNTIL…

Coco is doing her interview after being eliminated when RuPaul pops up on screen telling her that her time is not up and she will get a chance at revenge.  So I guess we shall have to wait til next time to find out about the revenge…..
