Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 2, Episode 3 Recap

Alright y’all, here we go.  Another week, another recap.  Hopefully they are interesting enough.  So this week’s episode, titled HERstory Of The World, had the queens performing a lip synch extravaganza as different women in history.  It appears as if everyone chose and/or were given their characters before starting the show because they certainly didn’t make them in the workroom.

Speaking of which, that’s something that’s been missing on RPDR.  A good bit of the entertainment in seasons past has been the queens figuring out how to make their runway looks or challenge looks or what not.  These days, they are showing up prepared with everything, and on this All Stars season, we don’t even get to see Rupaul in the workroom anymore.  They are online at logotv.com though.  But I digress…

Main Challenge

I guess they just said “To hell with the mini challenges” this season.  Okay so as I said above, the challenge was for the queens to perform as a group doing a lip synch and dance performance all together of different women from history.  They were supposed to try to standout amongst everyone else.

Detox was Marie Antoinette and was pretty funny.  I loved the outfit which was in signature Detox neon pink.  I thought she did pretty good, but I didn’t feel she was the best of the pack.  Her future of drag runway look was shocking, but in a good way.  I loved that she came out with the wig and blazer on just to snatch them off and shock the crap out of us.  Good going.

Alaska was really good as Eve and so gorgeous with that makeup and wig.  But since she went first and didn’t do much that was too crazy it wasn’t as memorable as some of the others.  Her runway look was a hot mess though.  It didn’t seem like she put a lot of thought into it.

Roxxxy Andrews was Eva Peron and she was entertaining with a song that wasn’t even as funny as some of the others but she made it so good with her movements and lip synch and I loved the outfit.  Her future of drag outfit slayed.  The makeup, hair, contacts, chains hanging on the face were all great.  I can’t agree  with the judges that it was plain.  That was not plain at all and it looked much better than some of the others.

Alyssa Edwards again killed this week and I’m glad to see her get some recognition for it.  She was so funny as Annie Oakley.  That hair was so good and of course, as a dancer, she killed the choreography.  And can we talk about how good she looked in Roxxxy’s wig and her dress from last week at the beginning of the episode?  Chile…yes please…anywho her runway look was all over the place and nowhere at the same time.  Based on the lip synch she definitely deserved top two even if she was a little high and mighty about choosing someone.

Ginger Minj as Catherine the Great was okay, nothing the write home about.  I liked the dress she wore.  Her runway look was cute, but didn’t really work in comparison to what some of the other queens brought out.

Katya performed as Princess Diana.  The dress was pretty but not exciting and her performance was kind of boring if I’m honest. I love Katya but this wasn’t her week.  I also think her song was boring so there wasn’t much she could have done with it.  Her runway outfit was cute but weird.

Phi Phi O’Hara’s Helen of Troy was so entertaining, more so to me than Detox’s Marie Antoinette so if anyone was paying for my opinion, then I would have chose her and Alyssa for the top 2.  The runway look was a cosplay dream.  And to learn after the fact that she made that the day of with pizza boxes and gatorade bottles is amazing.  Also, I’m gonna come right out and say it.  I feel that they are trying to set up Phi Phi as the villain this season.  I’m sure everyone is saying things that are not the nicest, but they are showing hers a lot.

The Elimination

The queens were sent back to deliberate with Detox and Alyssa having to choose which of the bottom two would go home if they won the lip synch. The bottom two were Ginger Minj and Katya.  I have no objections to that based on the performances and runway.  So at the beginning of the season everyone pretty much agreed that they would send the person home with the worst critiques.  This would have meant Katya was going home.

The lip synch good, Alyssa did lots of kicking, twirling and splits.  Alyssa won and decided to *gasp* send Ginger Minj home.  So there we have it, Alyssa went agains the agreement for how to send people home so it will be interesting for sure to see how everyone else reacts.  Katya lives to fight another day.  And NOPE WE STILL DON’T KNOW WTF THIS REVENGE THING IS ABOUT.

On a positive note, Rupaul won an Emmy tonight for hosting RPDR.  Pow!  Until next time…’
