This post is inspired by seeing many people stay engaged for years and years, “hoping” they can get married year after year, promising this will be their year and yadda yadda yadda. Here’s the thing. If you want to get married, it will cost you about $100 and a little bit of your time if you go to a justice of the peace at your local city hall. But the fly in the ointment is that most people want the big party; the wedding with reception. So they let that hold them back from marriage. Marriage and Weddings are not the same thing. Here are some reasons why city hall is the way to go:
The Cost of Weddings is Too Damn High
You will look at venues and the like, thinking about how many people you should invite to eat $60/plate mass produced prime rib and chicken, not even taking into consideration that you rarely pay $60/plate to feed yourself let alone long lost relatives you don’t even talk to. The food and the flowers are the most expensive items. So I would say invite your closest family and friends and then go out to a nice restaurant afterward.
You Don’t Have to Wait
You can usually just go and fill out some paperwork and do the deed. In some states you may need an appointment, but compared to the months of planning and figuring stuff out for a wedding, it’s easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Saves Some Embarassment If Things Don’t Go As Planned
So you’re in love. You decide to get married. You spend a gazillion dollars on a wedding. Long lost relatives from all over the place come to eat $60/plate prime rib and witness your love. And then it doesn’t work out. And you may have gone into debt to pay for the wedding. While it would hurt to end the marriage, you won’t have gone into debt in the beginning. This one was pretty macabre, non? Back to the positives then…
Sometimes there’s nothing more romantic than saying to hell with what society wants. I does what I want! And that’s totally cool. I got married in a courthouse and many of my family members did too.
There Are Some Beautiful Courthouses Out There
We recently went to gorgeous wedding ceremony at city hall in San Francisco. That building is amazing, there didn’t appear to be a bad location to get hitched and it’s a big tradition. We saw so many beautiful brides and grooms with their immediate families coming in to get married.
You Can Still Wear The Nice Clothing
The people we saw in San Francisco were all dressed up and it was a nice sight to behold. Gowns, tuxedos, bouquets, bridesmaids, groomsmen. It was all there and it was all love.
So if you’re sure you want to be married. You love each other and want to be spouses, just do it! Go to city hall. Be married and be sweet to each other and if things are going really well, then have a huge anniversary party at a later time. Also, here are some beautiful pics of city hall weddings. Pow!
